Steve just got some new Strats for use onstage. The sunburst first showed up
in Guelph (July '03) and the black followed shortly after, appearing in the
Another Postcard video and on when they played it on Leno.
Steve decided to leave the factory tag hanging from the headstock of the sunburst
one. It is one of Fender's sunburst colours - either 3-color (00), 2-color (03),
or brown (32) sunburst. It may be one of the standard models available from
Fender, or Steve could have custom ordered it. It actually looks very much like
the Custom Classic Strat currently available in the custom shop (with the maple
neck).
They all have the 60's style larger headstock. The burst one has a trem bar,
while the black and blue do not. The burst model has a maple fretboard, while
the blue and black have rosewood. The pickups on the burst guitar are standard
fender setup, but I wouldn't be able to tell you if these are Standard, American,
Classic 50's, etc. series. The black and blue guitars are fat strat setup with
humbucker in the bridge position. Again, this could be Standard, American, custom,
etc.
The black and blue guitars one, I've figured out, are baritone (Subsonic, as
Fender calls it) guitars that he uses for Postcard. He seems to prefer the black
But you can see him play the blue on the Alcatraz webcast. On the Sharon Osbourne
Show, he plays the black and you can see the blue on a stand behind him.
